Office 15 To Be Released In 2013

Those of you who have been following the late engineering work at Microsoft know that Microsoft Office 2010 went by the codename Office 14 untill it was released. So it didn’t require much guesswork to crack the meaning behind the name Office 15, when it showed up in a Microsoft employee blog comment in september 2009 along with the name Office 2013. Well, this is all old news, but recently Microsofts Kitchen (http://msftkitchen.com) discovered a similar note in a (now deleted) job experience profile of a Program Manager at Microsoft Corporation

Responsible for SmartArt graphics features for both client and server, SmartArt graphics content including new delivery method, and the Insert Screenshot feature.

Now, to put all the pieces together it is also interesting to look at the recent job postings (emphasized by Microsoft Kitchen) on Mocrosoft.com which indicates that major new feature to be introduced in Office 15 which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, Outlook. So a lot to look forward to in the year 2013.

Windows Phone 7 Selling Faster Than Expected

In the war between Windows Phone 7, Android and iPhone, the Windows Phone 7 proves to be selling better than expected this autumn. The increased sales are especially going on in Australia and Europe, where the mobile phones HD7 and Mozart have been well received and are already sold out at many places.

According to Microsoft, the sales numbers have given them confidence in their software, but also that the overall shipment of these phones was limited. The new version, WP7, is to be launched at the 8th of November, which will be used on smartphones released by Samsung, LG and HTC (Source 1).

In addition, Orange reported that they have sold out of Windows 7 Phone handsets and have had to give away vouchers to unhappy costumers (Source 2).

Microsoft Improving Compatibility Between Office 2010 and Office for Mac 2011

In a post on Microsoft’s Windows 7 blog mactopia it is announced that they are moving the user interface of Office for Mac 2011 from Carbon over to Cocoa for a better performance. The main problem have been the lack of compatibility between the Windows and the Mac version of Office. The problem was already being discussed when Office for Mac 2011 was introduced (Feb. 11, 2010), and Microsoft stated that:

“Nowadays, compatibility means more than just file formats,” Microsoft’s Kurt Schmucker told Macworld. “It’s also workflow, collaboration, and user interface.”

Office for Mac 2011 is supposed to be launched some time this year.

Actually, after one of my friends showed me a pirate version of GoToMyPc’s upcoming Ipad application I first thought that I would throw up a post about it, but then I realized that I have never written a post about GoToMyPc itself.

It is no struggle and you don’t have to be a geek to get it up running. And even if you should run into a problem they have a nice support to guide you through it.
GoToMyPc gives you a “real time” connecting to your computer. So what you do from a remote distance also happens on the computer – as you do it. You can use short-cuts like copy/paste and drag and drop, just like you already do it on your own computer.
Now many might ask about the security and to be honest, I’m not in any position to judge it. But according to PC World (PCWorld.com), GoToMyPc uses “Advanced Encryption Standard and integrates with two-factor authentication schemes such as SecurID” which should make it as secure as home banking.
So far applications for smartphones and PDAs are already available, while Citrix has promised that they are ready to launch their applications for Ipads and Androids in the first quarter of 2011.

Well, pretty much anyone who has the need to access more than one computer during the day – whether it being at work or home – individuals and small and big companies. Windows 7 RC coming in two months and RTM as early as 6 months

In a video released Danny Beck, senior enterprise product marketing manager for the Windows Business Group talks about t Windows 7 and what this means to Partners and also talks about the release dates of Windows 7.
Here is what actually he said in the video
“In a couple of months time we’re going to move to, what we call the Release Candidate and That’s the next iteration, it’s a little bit more stable, less bugs in there. And then at some point over the six to 12 months potentially, if all things considered equal, and we’re happy with the product, we are looking to release it into the market for mainstream consumption, both for consumers and for businesses.”
In this video Danny Beck talks about Windows 7 beta too,arising suspicion that this video was actually shot somewhere in February when Windows 7 beta was available for download,which means that Windows 7 RC would be available in april and RTM version could be expected by september or october.

The Virtual basic 6 support page has been updated and it states that VB6 runtime is supported in Windows 7 (win7). The following summary is from Source 1.
Since the initial release of this support statement, the Windows 7 operating system has been announced. This document has been updated to clarify Microsoft’s support for VB6 on Windows 7.
VB6 runtime will ship and will be supported in Windows 7 for the lifetime of the OS. Developers can think of the support story for Vista being the same as it is for Windows 7. However there are no plans to include VB6 runtime in future versions of Windows beyond Windows 7.
