During the late engineering work at Microsoft the Microsoft Office 2010 went by the codename Office 14 until its release. Therefore, it didn’t take much guesswork to crack the meaning behind the name Office 15, when it showed up in a Microsoft employee blog comment in September 2009 along with the name Office 2013. Well, this is all old news, but recently Microsofts Kitchen (http://msftkitchen.com) discovered a similar note in a (now deleted) work profile of a Program Manager at Microsoft Corporation.

According to Microsoft, the sales numbers have given them confidence in their software, but also that the overall shipment of these phones was limited. The new version, WP7, is to be launched at the 8th of November, which will be used on smartphones released by Samsung, LG and HTC (Source 1).

In addition, Orange reported that they have sold out of Windows 7 Phone handsets and have had to give away vouchers to unhappy costumers (Source 2).

The Latest Build being Build 7070 which was compiled on 24th March.

Since the initial release of this support statement, the Windows 7 operating system has been announced.  This document has been updated to clarify Microsoft’s support for VB6 on Windows 7.

VB6 runtime will ship and will be supported in Windows 7 for the lifetime of the OS.  Developers can think of the support story for Vista being the same as it is for Windows 7.  However there are no plans to include VB6 runtime in future versions of Windows beyond Windows 7.

In this new version of Office Microsoft main goal has been to make it easier to store, edit and work with files online. With Microsoft Office Web Apps it is possible to keep versions of the same document synchronized so a group of people can work on the same project files simultaneously.

Putting the Win7 installation on a USB thumb drive has a few advantages—a small USB key is much more convenient for carrying around than a DVD, the OS will actually install much faster, and you can use a USB key to install Windows 7 on systems that do not have a DVD drive, such as a netbook. In fact, you can even install Windows 7 on netbooks that have fairly modest hardware. Dennis Chung, an IT Pro Evangelist at Microsoft recently posted a video demonstrating how easy it is to prepare your thumb drive and use it to install Windows 7. Here’s a quick look at the process:

• First, you’ll need the DiskPart utility on the system you will use to prep the thumb drive. This is a free disk partitioning utility that is likely already installed on your Windows system. If not, you can download DiskPart here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0FD9788A-5D64-4F57-949F-EF62DE7AB1AE).
• Launch the DiskPart utility by typing diskpart at the Start Menu.
• Then run the list disk command to check the status of your drive.

• Now run select disk 1 where the "1" is actually the corresponding number of your USB drive.

• Run clean.
• Once the thumb drive is clean, you can run create partition primary.
• Now make the partition active by entering active
• Then you need to set up the file system as Fat32 by running format fs=fat32 quick (quick, of course, specifies that you want to perform a quick format to speed up the process).
• Entering the assign command gives the USB drive a drive letter, making it easy to access from Windows Explorer
• Then you can copy everything from the Windows 7 installation DVD onto the USB key (a simple drag and drop will do).
• Now you can insert the thumb drive into the system you want to install Windows 7 onto and boot the system. The installation will now proceed as usual—but faster.

Whether you should upgrade to the Home, Professional or Ultimate edition fully depends on what edition of Windows Vista you are already running. Neither is it possible to e.g. upgrade a 32 bit system to a 64 bit. You can check out microsoft.com to find out more about this.

Before you upgrade:

• Make sure you have either service pack 1 or 2 installed on your Windows Vista.
• Make sure your computer is connected to the internet.
• Upgrade your virus protection software and run a scan. Hereafter, turn it off.

Upgrading to Windows 7

• If you have bought Windows 7 online you run the setup file sent to you.
• If you have bought Windows 7 offline you insert the disk in your computer.
• Choose the option Upgrade and follow the instructions.

The smallest edition is Windows Starter, which is only released as a 32 bit operation system. The design is downgraded compared to the other editions (besides Windows 7 Home Basic) and doesn’t Aero Glass. This is to make the operation system a lightweight and therefore easier to run on a small notebook.

Windows Starter can’t be bought in store and is only available as a pre-installed system on notebooks from Microsoft vendors.

Listed below are the rest of the editions:

• Windows 7 Premium
• Windows 7 Basic (Home)
• Windows 7 Professional
• Windows 7 Ultimate
• Windows 7 Home (Premium)

These are small features for a whole new version and Microsoft is probably going to have a hard time convincing business that they should use this version rather than the Windows Home. But Microsoft has previously proved that they got the marketing skills to really ‘move’ people.
